Lawn Mowing in Stratford

Fortnightly mowing for Stratford's owner-occupied house lots and townhouse yards, with the line trim done on every visit.

For dozens of Stratford lots, one boundary is shared with a park rather than with another house: counted for this page from the Queensland cadastre, 32 freehold lots touch Jalarra Park, 11 touch Magazine Reserve and 10 touch Aeroglen Park. Trisim takes on lawns in Stratford, so call 0488 622 205 or send the address through the form. Somebody looks at the yard before a figure is given, and the visit is the cut, the edges, the line trim and a blow down of the paths and driveway, on the same day every fortnight.

At the 2021 Census, 30.2% of Stratford's occupied homes were owned outright and 40.3% were owned with a mortgage, 70.5% together against 62.0% across the Cairns council area. Of its 461 occupied homes, 75.5% were separate houses, against 72.9% for Cairns. Couple families with children made up 44.4% of families, against 38.8% for Cairns. So this page is written first for owner-occupiers on their own house lots. Second, it is for the landlords, agents and property managers behind the 29.1% of homes that were rented, against 35.0% for Cairns, and behind the 16.3% that were semi-detached, row or terrace houses or townhouses. On the ground, many lots are around 800 square metres, a figure worked out for this page from the Queensland cadastre that includes the house and is not an official or typical block size.

Why Trisim

Why lawn mowing matters in Stratford

Done right the first time.
Trina and Simon, Trisim Property Maintenance

Jalarra Park is the clearest place to start. Cairns Regional Council records that the land was part of Lily Bank Farm, where bananas, pineapples, sugarcane and oranges were grown, that it was set aside as a school reserve in 1926, that the school was never built, and that in 1993 it became a recreation reserve with a ring of jalarra trees planted. In the Queensland cadastre it is a reserve of 77,740 square metres, and Council's parks register places it off Alamein Street, which runs off Passchendaele Street. Magazine Reserve, at 29,970 square metres, and Aeroglen Park, at 71,130, are the other two parks that freehold lots share a boundary with.

The same Council register lists the Stratford Library at 11-13 Kamerunga Road, Dalziel St Park on the corner of Kamerunga Road and Dalziel Street, and Behan St Park, a natural area on Aeroglen Drive. Kamerunga Road itself was gazetted in 1936 as the road to Kamerunga from Stratford and Freshwater. Council's street register dates the residential streets across several decades: Hardwick and Mason Streets to a 1927 subdivision, Wilunga Street to a 1948 survey, Belleville Street to 1950, and Tanner Crescent to development of the area in 1960. Those are the dates of the street plans, not the ages of the houses on them.

Where a lot does share a fence with open parkland, that fence is in view from the park side rather than tucked behind a neighbour's yard, so the edge along it tends to show more than the middle of the lawn. That is why the parts of the visit beyond the cut matter here: edges, line trim and a blow down of the paths and driveway are all named parts of the standard visit, not extras.

Background sources place the residential northern part of the suburb on the lower slopes of Mount Whitfield and Lumley Hill, with the Barron River as its northern edge; no official elevation was checked for this page, and not every lot slopes. Where a corner of a yard does fall away, Trisim works graded and terraced blocks and hand-trims batters and embankments.

What an owner is buying, then, is a standing arrangement: the same day every fortnight, only quoted work, and a walk around the yard before the quote, so the park fence and any graded corner are seen before a figure is given.

What is involved

How we look after your place

Evenly cut lawn running to the verge at a Cairns property
01

A fence line that faces a park

Counted for this page from the Queensland cadastre, 32 freehold lots touch the boundary of Jalarra Park, 11 touch Magazine Reserve and 10 touch Aeroglen Park. Jalarra Park alone covers 77,740 square metres, held as a Council recreation reserve since 1993.

With a park rather than another yard on the far side, a fence line can be seen along its full length from public ground. Long grass at its foot is then on show to anyone using the park, whatever the state of the lawn in the middle.

The edges and the line trim are part of every standard visit, so the fence line is done each time along with the cut and the blow down. On the park side, Trisim quotes the work up to the property boundary and reports overgrown reserve land to Council rather than cutting it, and clearing vegetation on Council-controlled land needs a Council permit.

02

Corners and batters on the lower slope

Background sources describe the residential northern part of Stratford as sitting on the lower slopes of Mount Whitfield and Lumley Hill; this was not checked against official elevation data, and it does not mean every lot slopes.

Where part of a yard does fall away, a batter or embankment tends to be slower to keep than flat lawn, and it is the part most easily left until it has grown out.

Trisim works graded and terraced blocks, including hand-trimming batters and embankments, rather than declining sloped properties. Access to that part of the yard is looked at when somebody walks the property before quoting.

The clear months from August to October

At the Bureau of Meteorology's Cairns Aero station, about 2 km east of Stratford's gazetteer point, the mean number of clear days is 11.7 in August, 12.4 in September and 11.8 in October, against 2.5 in February. These are Cairns airport figures, not measurements taken in Stratford.

The late part of the year is the settled run, after a wet quarter in which the same station averages about five days of 25mm or more of rain in each of January, February and March. A lawn that was cut on a schedule through the wet still needs one through the clear months.

Trisim specialises in mulch mowing: clippings are cut fine and returned to the root zone, where Trisim describes them acting as a natural fertiliser and helping the soil retain moisture. The visit stays on the same day every fortnight whatever the month.

04

Grass at the fence where a yard meets bush

Council's parks register lists Behan St Park on Aeroglen Drive as a natural area, and background sources describe the southern part of Stratford as undeveloped bushland on higher slopes.

Under Cairns Regional Council Local Law No. 3, an authorised person who forms the view that an allotment is overgrown enough to seriously affect its visual amenity, or is likely to harbour reptiles, can require the owner or occupier to clear it. That applies to every allotment in the Cairns council area, not to Stratford in particular.

A standing fortnightly visit keeps the grass along the back fence on a set day, with the line trim done every time. Whether a back corner needs a first clear-up before any mowing starts is settled on the walk-round before quoting.

01

Fortnightly Lawn Mowing

Mowing on a standing fortnightly round: the cut, the edges, the line trim and a blow down of the paths and driveway.

Where a Stratford lot shares a fence with a park, that fence line gets its trim on the standard visit, not as an extra. Clippings are mulch mowed back into the root zone rather than bagged, and nothing outside the quote is done.

Green Waste Removal

Prunings, clearing waste and cuttings that have to leave the property.

Business Queensland places the whole Cairns council area inside an electric ant biosecurity zone: turf, soil, garden waste and garden mulch all count as carriers, though taking them to a listed facility that accepts carriers is permit-free. Trisim's posted eight-hour grass clearing, with its many tarp loads, was a Cairns job, not a Stratford one.

Garden Mulching

Garden beds mulched from four supply options.

Four mulches are on offer: Aussie Bush made from recycled green waste, termite-repelling Premium Red Cypress, Tea Tree when in season, and slow-to-break-down, weed-blocking Caribbean Pine Bark. Stratford lots are often near 800 square metres including the house, a cadastre calculation made for this page rather than an official size.

High Pressure Cleaning

Driveways, paths and concrete surfaces cleaned back.

Trisim's own posts show driveways and concrete pressure washed at properties around Cairns; none is shown as a Stratford job. Separate houses made up 75.5% of Stratford's occupied homes at the 2021 Census, a little above the Cairns figure of 72.9%.

Local, insured, reliable

A Cairns team you can trust with the keys

Instead of review quotes, this page gives facts a Stratford owner can check for themselves. Trina and Simon, a veteran-owned family, started Trisim in 2021; the Australian Business Register lists ABN 24 306 689 336 as active from 1 July 2021, based in QLD 4870, and the team numbers between five and ten people. Everyone who comes to a yard is police-checked, and the business carries public liability insurance. In Trisim's own words, the commitment is to arrive on the same day each fortnight, stand behind the work, and never do work that was not quoted, so the bill holds no surprises. Queensland's Office of Fair Trading explains that the Australian Consumer Law expects services to be supplied with due care and skill, to suit the purpose they were bought for, and to arrive within a reasonable time, adding that wet weather can make a delay reasonable. Trisim's posted job photos, such as an eight-hour grass clearing and pressure-washed driveways, are drawn from around Cairns, not from Stratford.

Common questions from Cairns residents

Yes. Trisim takes on lawn mowing in Stratford. Ring 0488 622 205 or send the address through the form, and somebody comes out to look at the yard before quoting, rather than pricing it over the phone. The quote is free. Until that visit, there is no set day, travel time or start date to promise.

Every visit. Line trimming is one of the four named parts of a standard Trisim mow, together with the cut, the edges and a blow down of the paths and driveway. On a lot that shares a boundary with Jalarra Park, Magazine Reserve or Aeroglen Park, that means the fence line facing the park is trimmed on the same fortnightly day as the rest of the lawn. Mention the park fence when you call so it is seen on the walk-round.

Yes. Trisim works graded and terraced blocks, including hand-trimming batters and embankments, rather than turning sloped properties away. How that part of the yard is reached, and whether it needs a first clear-up, is worked out when somebody walks the property before quoting. Background sources put the northern part of Stratford on the lower slopes of Mount Whitfield and Lumley Hill, though that does not mean every lot has a fall.

Trisim mulch mows as standard: the clippings are cut fine and returned to the root zone, where Trisim describes them acting as a natural fertiliser and helping the soil retain moisture, with no clippings to cart away. The Cairns Aero weather station averages 11.7 to 12.4 clear days in each of August, September and October, against 2.5 in February, a Cairns figure rather than a Stratford one. The round itself does not change with the season: the same day every fortnight.
